UNOFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, USD 289

       A meeting of the Board of Education was held on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the board meeting room. President Beth Watson called the meeting to order.  Other board members present were Juanita Peckham, Kevin Jones, Clyde Coons, Dawn Whalen, and Ron Bloss.   Jerry Henn, Supt., Brad Burkdoll, HS/MS AD, Jason Townsend, Elem. Prin., and Sherry Bousman, Clerk, were also present.
    
ADOPT THE AGENDA    Dawn Whalen moved, Kevin Jones seconded and motion carried 6-0 to adopt the agenda

Patron was unable to see the attachments board members instructed how to view.

STUDENT PRESENTATION
    
Toby and Maggie six graders are part of the SMILE program and spoke about their time at the Wellsville Retirement Center. They spend time with the residents playing games, baking, and visiting.

Dawn Whalen moved, Juanita Peckham seconded and motion carried 6-0 to adopt the agenda with the exception of the WJRC minutes and the Elementary financial reports.
    
    Kevin Jones moved, Ron Bloss seconded and motion carried 6-0 to approve the WJRC minutes and the Elementary financials.
    
6.A. OLD BUSINESS:  COUNTY MEMORANDUM    County Memorandum of Understanding.  The county Superintendents will work together with local and county officials to produce one memorandum of understanding for the county.  It will be specific to each city, but have many of the same items in it since we all use the same county officials.  We will begin work on this in October.  The Legislature passed a law on Juvenile Justice and this is a part of the law.
 
    
7. A.  GREENHOUSE    Discussion about how to bring the Greenhouse back to a usable building was discussed.
    
7. B.  CAPITAL OUTLAY INFORMATION    This was presented as information so the Board could see what possibilities needing/wanting to be purchased this school year in regards to capital expenses.  Documentation is on the website.
    
7.C. VEHICLE PURCHASE    Juanita Peckham moved, Ron Bloss seconded and motion carried 6-0 to allow Mr. Henn to purchase a new transit van for our usage this school year, not to exceed $27,000.  It will be a Ford Transit 150 LR Wagon, 10 passengers.
    
7.D.  KASB CONVENTION    Information was passed along to members about the convention coming up in December.
    
8. EXECUTIVE SESSION    Dawn Whalen moved, Juanita Peckham seconded and motion carried 6-0 to recess into executive session for 20 minutes to discuss negotiations, personnel, and student matters to protect the privacy interest of individual(s) with Supt Henn and Elementary Principal Jason Townsend present. The board will reconvene in open session at 7:55pm.  The board recessed into executive session at 7:35pm.
    
    Jason Townsend left the meeting at 7:52pm.
    
    The regular meeting resumed at 7:55pm.
    
8. EXECUTIVE SESSION    Juanita Peckham moved, Dawn Whalen seconded and motion carried 6-0 to recess into executive session for 5 minutes to discuss non elect personnel to protect the privacy interest of individual(s) with Supt Henn present.   The board will reconvene in open session at 8:00pm.  The board recessed into executive session at 7:55pm.
    
    The regular meeting resumed at 8:00pm.
    
8. EXECUTIVE SESSION    Ron Bloss moved, Juanita Peckham seconded and motion carried 6-0 to recess into executive session for 10 minutes to discuss non elect personnel to protect the privacy interest of individual(s) with Supt Henn present. The board will reconvene in open session at 8:10pm.  The board recessed into executive session at 8:00pm.

9. A. PERSONNEL    Dawn Whalen moved, Juanita Peckham seconded and motion carried 6-0 to approve a contract to offer Mr. Kindle as the Middle School wrestling coach.  
    
9. B. PERSONNEL    Juanita Peckman moved, Dawn Whalen seconded and motion carried 6-0 to approve the resignation of Miriam Barthol as a bus driver October 12, 2016.
    
ADJOURNMENT    Dawn Whalen moved, Juanita Peckham seconded and motion carried 6-0 to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting was adjourned 8:15pm.
