About Kim Smith

I am thrilled to be back in the elementary library for the Fourth year.  Our family began our journey with the Wellsville School District in 2002, the first year the current elementary school opened.  I began volunteering in my children's classrooms on my days off from teaching preschool in Olathe.  A few years down the road, I became a classroom substitute and eventually joined the ranks of Para educators in the Wellsville PEP Program.  I loved my time subbing and hanging out with the preschoolers, but in 2012 I was offered the full-time position as Library Aide.  I soon discovered that seeing every child in the school a couple of times a week, watching a child's eyes light up during a read aloud, or helping a student discover a love for reading is the perfect fit for me.  Helping a student find a "special" book that may spark an interest and encourage the child to read more is extremely rewarding.  Although fun storytimes and checking out books are highlights of library time, we also spend time engaging in activities which teach library/research skills and basic computer skills.

When I am not in the library, I am usually on the sidelines of one of my boy's sporting events, curled up with a good book, or relaxing with my family.  My husband, Jason, and I have been married for over 20 years and have 4 amazing young men.  Caleb, our oldest, is a senior at Wichita State studying Aerospace Engineering.  Trent, our second son, is a a college freshman at McPherson College studying Biochemistry and playing baseball as a bulldog.   Josh, our third son, loves skating, playing baseball, and playing computer games that allow him to program and build things from the ground level up.  Luke, our youngest, loves anything that requires running feet and a ball, but baseball tops the list.  He currently plays for the Competitive Edge based out of Ottawa KS.  As you can see, our boys keep us on the move and happily cheering them on.

I am looking forward to another fruitful year with your children as we engage our minds in the world of books and research.  If you have any questions of concerns feel free to notify me at (785) 883-2996 ext. 3136.
